I use three M6s professionally, along with a pair of Nikon F100s. I teach documentary photography/photojournalism at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I was a print journalist for 23 years and won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting. Is that enough about who I am? As to my "attack" - It wasn't an attack - it was simply pointing out the obvious. Many sections of that review read exactly like Leica advertising copy. The M7 may well be the best Leica ever made - but only time will tell. What we know in the meantime is that Mr. Putts is now waxing eloquent over features which, in the past, he has dismissed as unnecessary and contrary to the Leica "philosophy" - and the idea of their being a Leica "philosophy" it pretty funny in and of itself - it's a bit like referring to the hammer philosophy, or the belt sander philosophy. Leicas are tools for making photographic images - not philosophers. And they are tools that most serious photographers use as part of a larger tool kit. Erwin Putts gets an M7 ONE YEAR ahead of release - when Leica is denying that there will ever BE an M7. He gets extensive tours of the factory prior to release, so that he can describe in worshipful prose the ancient sewing machines, manned by the skilled Portuguese seamstress sewing the shutter curtain. Are we really expected to continue to believe that Erwin and his reports are what any neutral observer would call "independent" of Leica and truly objective?
