Subject: [Leica] 24mm Focus Problem

I got myself a 24mm elmarit today but am experiencing a bit of frustration
with the focus. Buildings in the distance align in the rangefinder when the
f/2.8 focal indicator on the focus ring lines up with the left edge of the
infinity symbol. Likewise, the closest focus which is 28" actually aligns at
approximately 26" distance. My rangefinder is not at fault, it aligns
correctly with all other lenses I have. When the focus ring is fully swung
towards infinity, I can see that vertical lines are broken slightly in the
RF, and at close focus the focus ring passes the 28" mark to where it will
align with the f/4 hash mark to the right of the 2.8 mark. What gives? What
am I to trust, the lens markings, or the RF image or should I take this lens
back and get it checked?

Andy
