I can't remove the hood on this one, its fixed. They are replacing it so 
this story has a happier ending.  Will make sure I am extremely diligent 
with checking all new Leica gear I buy in future - did not see any reports 
of this potential problem before I bought my stuff and I did research all 
quite extensively.  Not a wasted effort because as a result I have 
discovered my insurance policy supposedly does not cover for equipment in 
transit - so that has got to change - how odd.
