I did have some mis-loaded rolls without the basket, and since I installed the basket, I have yet to have a mis-loaded roll. This could be simply because now I'm conscious of it, and make sure the film is pushed all the way up, and lines up with the sprockets, but I really don't care...it works fine, so I'm not going to change it, and since the camera came with the basket there in the first place, it sounds like a good idea to keep it there.
