Please correct me if I am wrong.  I seem to remember that
the Leica M to M lens coupler was open in the center
therefore it would not protect the rear element very well
when only one lens was attached.  I believe that ( the the
usual $$ issue ) was why so many recommended gllueing two
caps back to back.
