If you were using the flash on TTL I would look to see if there was a +
setting.  If not, I would use a pencil eraser on the contacts in the hot
shoe and on the flash.  A crude way to check TTL flash systems is to get
really close to a wall and trip the shutter with the flash on, you should
get a really weak flash.

If we are talking about a matter of slight overexposure then adjust the dial
to minus 1 or so.  Season to taste.
