OK Mike,

If you are thinking about overexposure you have lots of choices in
technique.

1. just leave the strobes or lights far away from the flowers.

2. if you must have the strobes close to the flowers, use the "old" trick
of putting a couple layers of white tissue, or handkerchief over the
strobes. this will reduce their light output to about 1/4. Make some tests
exposures. you can reduce the light output all you want with this.

4. some strobes have low power settings. 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc.

3. put a neutral density filter on the lens. maybe ND.9 exposure factor 8x
.

Another thought. a "ring flash" puts the flash right at the front of the
lens, and there are also flash holder brackets that you can buy that attach
the flash to the filter ring of your lens. you can use one of these as the
"main" and all the others as "fill."

If you are using "hot lights", floods, etc, and are thinking about the
heat wilting the flowers, put a sheet of glass between the floods and the
flowers.

one more tip, nothing to do with lighting. after you get the shots you
want, try spraying the flowers with a fine mist of water from a plant
sprayer. they will look dew covered, and the light reflections off the
water droplets will really look cool.

Happy shooting,
Alex
