Ah, Allan, you have such a gracious way of putting things.

Forgive me if I don't see standing in the dank dark on my feet for hours as
any more mentally enriching than sitting in a room with decent lighting, in
an extremely comfortable chair;

Forgive me if I don't thrill to the tactile rush of having my hands
constantly in and out of chemicals, with my nails turning brown and my
finger tips shriveling - been there, done that, btw;

Forgive me if I find working with a trackball, or an optical mouse, or a an
optical pen, to be tactile and satisfying;

Forgive me if I find watching the changes I make appear on the screen as I
make them to be more of a rush than going through all the focusing,
adjusting, burning, dodging, inserting of paper, dipping and dunking BEFORE
discovering that I didn't get it quite right and have to start over again.

Basically, forgive me for not see the world precisely as you do - for that
obviously make me and the countless people who see the world as I do lame.
;-)

B. D.

Because sitting on your ass for hours in front of a computer screen (God
forbid, maybe even watching TV!) is not the same thing as being in a
darkroom doing darkroom work. It omits the tactile element, the same
soothing element that makes oil painting such a joy. Asking the
question is as ignorant as asking, "Why buy canvas, brushes, and paint,
when you can make pictures on your computer?"

The question is lame.
