Re filters:

If you want most filters'  "glass"  can be removed with a "spanner wrench"
or improvised tool.  Or use a "step-up" ring.  Either way you get protection
to your lens threads,  and a mini lens hood effect.   And you can still use
a lens cap for more protection, if you wish to.
