I've just seen some BIG - like 26" by whatever - prints being for my SF show
from 4000 dpi scans of tri-x shot at 800...and I am absolutely astounded by
the quality - having been really terrified by the thought of what these huge
blowups were going to look like, expecially since people are going to be
viewing them from only a few feet away. They were apparently done by one of
the hybrid photo/digital processes, printed on a kodak paper that looks and
feels like a matte finish RC photo paper - and maybe is. Apparently they
were done straight from the scans - no digital fractals or other makebelieve
stuff. What ever the process is, it is astonishingly good.
