Thanks to all who responded.

There seems to be some consensus that Hewes reels are the best - I'd
never heard of them so I'm glad I asked!

I have still been unable to find anyone who sells steel 35mm tanks in
the UK, so I will have a look around the used market. Or, I can order
them from Calumet in the US. They do Kindermann tanks as well as their
own brand.
