A translational mishap.
See when the Germanic tribes were fighting the Romans they loaded up
their catapults with what then was called:
deliverworst. It was the worst liver they could send out for. The Romans
would break ranks when that stuff was flying at them and go home.
"Chiao!"  Later of course it was confused with the catapult itself. A
mobile thing..
