On the issue of which wide-angle to use, I offer this observation: 
crop.

I have a 21mm and the zoom viewfinder.  I compose in the viewfinder,
and dial in 21, 24 or 28 as the picture requires.  The quality and
sharpness of the 21 is high enough that you can easily crop the
resulting image to match the 24/28 field of view, and still get high
quality at 8x10.
