The chrome is great but definitely heavier...unless you're planning to use
it as a hammer to build a convention center, go with the black.

And I'm not surprised you were disappointed by the old lux..;-)

Ok... didn't like the 35 Lux I got (I am a very tough person to
disappoint), so it looks like I will have to make some sacrifices for
the ASPH.  The question now is, for modern Leica lenses, what looks and
what wears better for this particular lens - chrome or black?  I am
leaning toward black, but for some reason really like the idea of chrome
on brass.

I will very likely sell my M3, so this would be going with a Hexar RF.
I am not adverse to chrome lenses; I have quite a few.

Opinions?
