Hi, Phong - Well, while Erika is certainly an eyeful, I think your
alternate - the three guys in the surf - is definitely the winner. Nice
shot. :-)

Subject: [Leica] POW New Photos: Boys of Summer

In the summer time, we often go to the beach, despite the cold
New England ocean water. A few weeks ago, at Salisbury Beach I
met Victor, a recent high school graduate from Worcester, who drove
up with some friends to spend a few days at the beach. Victor grew
up in Miami, and loves the beach. He just bought a car, and has decided
to take the year off. We talked about tattoos and piercing, and how his
mother was upset at first about it all, then took to accept it. I asked to
take their pictures, tagged along for a while, and here's the POW
results. I did ask for Victor's address and sent them some prints.
I think Erika has a crush on Victor, in an adoring, you're-too-much
kinda way, though, of course, they are "just" friends. They all seem
such sweet kids.

Photographically, I was trying learn to cope with the midday harsh light and
strong shadows, by using fill-flash, learning to expose into the light, etc.
I don't want to avoid shooting during the midday hours.
I was also getting tired of doing portraits of seagulls, and my kids were
getting tired of me doing their portraits.

Thematically, in presenting a group of photos, I tried to introduce
repeating
patterns across 2 or more pictures, without being too obvious about it.
In fact, a couple of photos repeat the pose of others too obviously (Erika
and Erika 2),
and I will probably end up removing them, after the kids have seen their
photos on
the web. One thing I learned is how the light and shadow could give the
girls a very pleasing figure around the waist
(http://www.pbase.com/image/4227235).
I also found out again that editing your own photos is a very difficult job.

Comments/Critiques, positive and negative, on and off list, are welcome and
appreciated. I am learning and need your help.
