Dave,
This looks like the fogging that occurs when the foam seal around the window in the back of the R-4
is damaged.  The placement on the frame is a big clue.  If the fogging goes to the edge of the film
( to the sprocket hole area),  then it almost surely is from the window.  The " sprocket holes" are
too small to be sprocket holes but could be from a reflection or from a part of the damaged seal.
Unload your camera and open the back and give the seal a good inspection.
 I keep these windows covered with opaque tape as a matter of course.  If I can't remember what film
I have in my camera, then I'm not taking enough pictures : ).
