Subject: [Leica] Nathan's PAW 42: More Copenhagen vignettes

Last week I was in Denmark again, just a brief weekend visit with my
father. As one of the Swedish LUGgers recently wrote, this time of year
in Scandinavia slow film is fairly useless, so my cameras were fed
exclusively 400 and 3200 (i.e. really 1600) film on this trip. The four
pictures do not really have any common theme except that they were all
taken during this trip.

The main picture is the view from my father's 12th floor apartment, of
something as uninteresting as a garbage incinerator in Avedøre, a suburb
of Copenhagen. But I liked the scene, and the fast film with its
graininess was a good fit:

Whenever I visit my father, we usually go to Dragør, another Copenhagen
suburb near the airport, where the fishermen come in around 9-10 a.m.
and you can buy fresh fish straight off the boat. If you prefer your
fish a little less alive, you can go to a small shop right in the
harbour, where this lady will be happy to sell you delicious smoked fish:

I bought a beautiful smoked eel, 1 metre long, which my wife found
disgusting and sent me out on the balcony to eat.

The café scene was a novely when it arrived in Copenhagen in the
mid-70s. Today they are all over the place, each with its own
atmosphere, and fortunately the city has not yet been invaded by
Starbucks. This particular café belongs to the Copenhagen Arts Society
and Photographic Centre, and people linger a long time over their coffee
and the art and photography books which the owners put out for general
browsing:

And finally, on the same street as the café (called Gammel Strand) I
spotted these two older gentlemen who were having a beer to get the day
off to a good start (it was about 10 a.m.). A very typical Danish scene,
really:
