Hmmmm,   What film are you useing?      And do you do your own developing?
Maybe try some high contrast copy films.  And as for the overexposure,   I
think you will just have to bracket your exposures until you get the effect
you want.  When I try something new I'm happy to get a couple good shots per
roll.
