It adds some tension to him standing there. I would even crop it vertically to the left, just through the right hand of the girl (creates a slightly odd composition but some effect of movement, emphasizing her entrance into the scene). The image is currently faithful to the composition rules but is a bit static. Just two people who happen to be present in view. Break the rules where appropriate.
