The only real hazard is the same one we face in spring/summer/fall cycling:
cars!  Particularly after a fresh snowfall before the roads have been cleared.
 Not that I've ridden in the snow lately (Sacramento's record snowfall is
probably measured in fractions of an inch) but in northern Illinois a number
of years ago, drivers were particularly obnoxious.
