Subject: [Leica] Reflex vs. RF

Interesting observations.

I had Nikons for many years, sold it all for Leica M, having a ball with it.
Miss having a reflex reflex camera on hand, especially for longer f/l. Just
received a R4s with 90 Elmarit purchased very reasonably from e*b*y.

After having used the M for only several months I was struck how different
and strange the R felt. The viewfinder is darker, the 90 makes everything
*big* in the viewfinder (I've become used to the M 90 frameline). Most
significant is the *slonk* of the mirror/shutter. It's got quite a kick to
it. The M is so stealthy by comparison.

Mind, in general I think, at least comparing the R4, Nikon has the reflex
thing down. Quieter, smoother, faster. The lenses are a whole 'nuther story,
though.

I see how both reflex and RF have their places. The M is best with 90 or
(especially) shorter f/l. Quiet, compact, unobtrusive. The R is noisy, not
as fast, but is a no-brainer for longer f/l. I haven't decided yet whether I
prefer the R or M 90. Even if I decide the reflex 90 is nicer, it's good to
have the reach with the M anyway.

This stuff is too fun.

Best, Jeffrey
