Jerry, if you read my original posting carefully, I
asked for other's experiences with my lens, and
whether or not not getting warranty service from a
repairman was normal in these circulstances.  I don't
feel it's a big enough deal to go further than that. 
You seem a bit keen on finding the evil doer.
