I just did really well with a purchase of a brand new Minolta Dimage Elite
scanner on Ebay. About $250 delivered. It has a cable, but no scsi card,
so I bought one used for $15.

Works really nice, and the software allows multi-pass scans, and other
features. The workflow is different from the Nikon Coolscan I have at work,
but I think it is gonna be a really nice scanner for this 800 Fuji that I
use so often. You cannot batch scan with it, which will probably improve my
scans. I can already see a lot less noise in my scans. After I get used
to it, I'll post more.

> One other option you didn't mention, and dependent upon whether you are
shooting a lot of color neg or B&W film, is using a flatbed scanner to scan
prints. You can get a pretty decent unit for $100-200, possibly even bundled
with Photoshop Elements. Print scans display well on monitors.
