Subject: [Leica] First real 35mm shots were the 1981 Columbia liftoff

I though it was so cool( I was only 9, sorry old folks!) that I was going to
photograph the first Space Shuttle Columbia liftoff with a "real" camera. A
Canon FTb. No Leicas yet back then.

We waited hrs after hrs of delays. I climbed up this pine tree(had to get
high up, like it mattered!) so I could get a clear shot of the shuttle
across the water.

Finally, the ground shook, though I was going to fall out of the tree, and
the shuttle was off. Images were not the greatest with a 105mm lens, but
they were my "first". Used the same camera when the Challenger exploded too.

Back then you could just get free passes to watch the shuttle from a close
distance. Times have changed.

Woke up this morning to see her land, for the last time.
