I'm obviously missing something here. I assume that people tape up their M's
because they think a thief will recognise the camera and steal it. But if a
thief knows what a Leica is, and what it's worth, won't he/she recognise the
taped version? Personally the first thing I think when a see a taped camera,
not that I see that many, is 'what model of Leica is that?'.

Y'know, that almost every Leica that I see in use, has had the same thing
done to it!  (Except in Japan, where there seems to be no theft or mugging).
