Sounds flaky. I doubt that there is much difference in the innards of the
two.

I use them both (unwillingly). 2000 on my workstation and XP on a laptop.
I prefer 2000, but you can learn to get around XP's quirks and it works
ok. The difference really doesn't bother me anymore.

I would NOT just reformat the drive until you do careful preparation. The
XP licensing is a real pain and you might end up in the middle of the
night with a computer that will only run Windows 3.11.

Give XP a try until you know you really can't do what you want.

Well :) If you start reformating hard drives ... you might not get around
to that. Start with this goal first.
