B.D.--

Whaaa? What do you mean, "which famous photo"? I will respectfully
suggest that "I" think you misunderstood the question. I'll repeat it
here to see if I'm going nuts, or what:

"Trivia Tuesday Question: What is the date of this ad, the model of the
camera pictured, and the particular pecularity of the image for which it
became best-known? If you can provide the "nickname" of the ad, even
better. We might even give you a bonus prize!"

The phrase "the particular peculiarity of the image for which it is best
known," refers to what is weird about the image in the ad. I wasn't
referring to any image that had been made with that particular camera. I
was asking about the reversal of the image of the camera. (Not to
mention the very strange-looking rubbery arm reaching in from the side
of the frame to present the camera to us!)

However, I would be very interested to know if indeed this was the
camera that Capa used to take his first photo that was later published.
That's even more interesting than the "technical crap" of my question!

Bye! ;-)

Okay to all this technical trivia crap - you also asked what famous
photo is associated with this camera - and I will stick my neck out and
say that I offered up Robert Capa's first published photo - Trotsky
speaking at a meeting, which I believe took place in Scandinavia
somewhere. Right? Wrong? :-) B. D.

Dear LUG'ers--

The answer for the Tuesday Trivia follows:

Advertisement for the Leica I which appeared in 1928. The camera was
accidentally printed in reverse, but the engravings appeared correctly.
Collectors nicknamed this ad "The Leica for Left-Handers."

Most of the folks who responded were pretty close on the date, knew the
Leica model pictured, and understood that the ad was printed in reverse.
No one knew the nickname, but that was an extra credit question ...
that's pretty arcane stuff, unless you are a die-hard Leica ephemera
collector.

I won't announce the winners, since I did not ask their permission to
put their names on a billboard; but I will be contacting them today.

Thanks, all, for participating! Twas fun!
