What is your serial number? Mine is 2472064. As long as I remember to 
turn it off before tossing it into a bag, my batteries last a long 
time. I also have the impression, but I have not tested it, that using 
TTL flash ups the battery consumption considerably. I have an even 
newer TTL but I have never tested it.

PS: I am not sure what one could argue about with regard to your 
results but it is hilarious none the less to hear you say it.
