Eric,
The 8008/8008S (F801 ROW) was a workhorse, it was replaced by the
N90/N90S. 4004 and 6006 were entry level, like the 55. There was a N70 too,
fell below the N90S They were more substantial then the 55 but suspect they
may all feel like the 55 though compared to a F3. F4 was the pro, more
robust, sort of the F3 of AF. F3AF, btw, only used 3 AF lenses, lest you
come across one and feel so inclined - your new one is not one of them.
Bottom line, if cheap but not cheap feeling is the guide, look for a 8008S
or F90S.

Hey all-

Last year I sold off all my nikon gear, plunged into an M7 outfit and have
never looked back.
Except for one lens -- I miss my Nikkor 55 'micro' for close-up portrait
work.

So.. I bought a used Nikkor 60 2.8D (the AF version of the 55).
I was thinking about buying the new N55 body to drive this lens but it looks
and feels consumer plasticky.
Any tried and true older, used AF body I should consider?
Yup - I could hook the lens up to an old manual body, but I would like to
try AF.
Hopefully I won't get lazy and ignore my M7..

Eric
