Subject: [Leica] The best 'slow' 400mm going!

Frank-
I'll let Doug Herr field this fully - but I have to tell you -- it's
just as fast as autofocus when you get the hang of it --honest, it's VERY
quick. You hold in a button (easy pressure) pull back and forth, and that's
al. Release of the button lock's it --- but I've follow focused with the 400
VERY easily for birds in flight. AF people WIL laugh, especially when you
tell 'em that the lens has only two elements (like a GOOD telescope!), but
then - show 'em the slides!! Doug turned me into a believer - it's the best
light weight 400 out there, and I think it can be converted to different
mounts.
Doug may know - I have a chance to buy the focus tube alone for a very
low price, and may have it 't mount' converted to Nikon for digital. It's
that good, especially in the center - the sweet spot for the digital sensor.
I'm still a "film is best" but it will be fun to play with!!
    Ed
