Well, Dan, isn't it odd that some low-level commander was carrying a
flag that had allegedly flown at the Pentagon on 9/11 - and gave it to
one of his guys and ordered him, in the middle of a city that was hardly
"safe," to put his butt 75 feet in the air where he would be a very
tempting target, to place said flag over the face of a statue? Odd, that
is, if there wasn't an order from higher up?

And - BTW - I am NOT commenting here on the war, or on the govt.
engaging in propaganda activities. After all, all governments try to
shape the news; the question is whether the media plays along, gets
sucked in, or remains independent.

I think you're making more of that flag incident than it deserves. I
saw
Larry King interview the marine last week, he said he just did what his
CO
told him to do. But there was no indication that the flag idea
originated
at any higher level than that. At least, the marine sure didn't know
of
any. He seemed like the stereotypical jarhead following orders. It
just seemed like an impromptu act.
