You know you got it by looking at the large, bright 2.5" LCD screen with 
the hood attached.  If you want to be sure of the focus, you zoom in on the 
screen which has a resolution of 205,000 pixels.

With film, you know you got it when you return home, develop the film, and 
look at it through a loupe on the light box.
