What, pray tell, is the Roman Republic. And you can assume, and argue all
you want, but Cartier-Bresson played a very large role in shaping the vision
of millions of photographers who came after him. And the universal respect
he receives from professionals is plenty authentication he is a master.
Besides, he's not a photojournalist, he's a surrealist. ;-)
