Your background parallels mine, only yours has much more depth (read spent longer and did more with each tool). I can't answer your question; I own an M6 and M7, so have never experienced the M4. I'll be reading others' responses with interest. I did take a look at your web page and was impressed! Very nice work. I hope you'll consider setting up a Leica PAW folder once you get going.
