Compare the work of the two side by-side - From a technical perspective,
Salgado's work is clearly superior. But oddly enough, I don't recall
commenting about Zhou Hai's work "on-list." ;-)

You don't need to be a practitioner to be a good critic of something.  
Alternatively, if you don't agree with that, please show us your 
portfolio that matches Sebastiao Salgado and Zhou Hai that allows you 
to make the judgement that one is great, while the other merely good... 
;)
