I agree, the stills were wonderful, especially the scenes from the Crucible.  Wasn't that a different era, the photographs which represented value for money certainly stand in contrast to photojournalism's current appropriation by advertising to promote the hyperreal spectacle of evil, perversion and bloodlust.

Last night on WGBH -Great Performances - "The Making of The Misfits"
preceded the fascinating "American Masters" on Elia Kazan, Arthur
Miller, and the blacklist. And the documentary is filled with the images
shot on the set by a crew of Magnum legends, including HCB....well worth
watching for the still photos, if for no other reason. It's also worth
watching because it doesn't contain one word about guns.;-)
