Yes, when I was working at the Mojave Flight Test Center, Rutan's
facility was right there.  Nice setup he had.  Not too easy to get in
to see things, but I did.  In the 1950's I raced sports cars against
his father.  He was the first to use aerospace type honeycomb
aluminium in a sports car bulkhead.
