Canon seems to care about backgrounds.  Check this excerpt from the Canon
website about the new 70-200 f2.8L IS USM:

"...And even the new 8-blade circular aperture offers a more pleasing
out-of-focus image."

And of course, the Noct bokeh is a matter of taste.  Out of the 3 images
Karin and I had chosen for the recent "World in Focus" print exhibit, 2 were
shot with the Noct wide open.
