Take a deep breath, guys. While there's no question technology is racing
faster than a Sox fan headed for Fenway this afternoon, we need to focus
on what we NEED, not what technology can achieve every 15 minutes. And
for the great majority of us, a 5-6 mgp camera will do what we want to
do, and a reasonably a fast Win or Macchine, running PS 5-6-7 will do
the job. I have a fast desktop machine with 1 gig of memory, and while
there are already faster machines, I simply don't need more.
In a way, worry about having to 'keep up' with technology is a bit like
worrying about whether you need to own every Leica lens and accessory;
you don't.

Another good point, personally I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up
with computer technology. I currently don't own a useful computer,
although it was it was state of the art 3 years ago. It is a real fear,
being rendered obsolete so quickly. Much emotional response swirls
about this rapidly changing technology, and being left in the dust.
Leica guarantees parts for their M's for the next 30 years, perhaps they
should add film as a "part".

Exactly, BD... I freely admit that comfort with a particular technology
is a generational thing. When I started using Leicas (or any 35mm for
that
matter) in the early 50s, all serious photography was done on LF. With
PJs all using 4X5 Graphics, there was no serious place for the
"miniature camera". As in all things, times change and people try but
sometimes fail to keep up.
