Yup, that's the basic idea :-( Or get the ROM lenses retrofitted with Leicaflex cams. My 280mm f/4 APO was originally an R-only lens and I had it modified to fit the SL and SL2. Keep in mind, ROM lenses will work on R3 and newer bodies too.
