Tim and Doug,
Let me know if I can offer any assistance in planning your trip down there.
I have gathered some good info over the years.

Next time I go down there, it will be for much longer, and I plan on getting
further south - into Mali and Mauritania.  We were planning to do it this
time, but some of my travel companions couldn't swing the time away.
Driving there and back from the UK would have taken us almost 3 months to do
it properly with enough time in key places for photography.

Tim: Your wife is really fortunate to have had those experiences growing up.
Think of the photo opportunities you'd have in a living situation like that!
