I'm guessing good old not-so-swift has never actually seen a print from 8x10
colour negative beside one from 35mm or (heaven forbid) digital.... There is
a qualitative and quantative difference between the two that is immediately
obvious.

Now whether the trade off between the systems in terms of their "cumbersome"
nature is worth it is a different question.

But the reason for using 8x10 is obvious and simple.
