Colen3/12/04 >*Digital gives me the ability to have 12 - count 'em - 24 different film >types in my camera for each and every shot - 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, >and 3200 asa daylight color film; 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 >tungsten color film; 100,200,400,800,1600, and 3200 asa pan black and >white film; and 100, 200,400,800,1600, and 3200 asa ortho black and >white film. NAH - Variety of speeds - yes. However any single speed film can be used to give daylight or tungsten color balance with filteration; and b&w prints. And of course with view cameras you can switch film as fast as picking up a holder. Hasselblad - interchangeable backs. Etc. Etc. YEAH - dialing it all in as needed in one body is fun and allows for lots of types of shooting appearing in sequence on one card. But most pro situations. You're set up to shoot a given condition. >*Digital gives me the freedom to shoot for my own pleasure without >worrying for a nanosecond about cost; cost may not be an issue for you, >but it sure is for me, and cost constraints severely limit my personal >shooting when I'm using film. NAH - Economics - the drive space and cost of digital hardware and software pays for a lot of film. >*Digital gives me instant feedback - when and if I want it - to adjust >exposure, color balance, etc. - and make sure that I'm getting what I >want. YEAH - Definitely a real plus for photographer and clients. I'm using my 10D as proofing device, lighting and exposure checker ala polaroid, even when film is the goal. >*Digital cuts my time to output IF I'm going quick and dirty. If I'm >going for quality, there is as much time involved in digital post-shoot >work as there is in scanning and printing film. In terms of real image processing - sometimes the digital (whether scan from film or capture) takes significantly longer because you can do more with it.
