And that's part of my point - we can pretty much guess the sensor size if we know the image is uncropped from an 11mm lens behaving as a 21mm.

Much the same as when I show an 8x10 contact print and inform the knowledgeable viewer that it was made with 165mm lens. What's the 35mm equivalent?
