I've run into something that may be vaguely related - and that is that
I've had a few images I've posted on the Leica Gallery end up looking
very 'blocky,' for want of a technical description, when the original
images look smooth as silk - or film.

I think it must be.  This is the first time I've put a gallery up on
pbase 
and I let their software compress the files.  I think I probably should 
have done it myself before uploading them.
