If you only owned the pre-ASPH lens, I would tell you to stick with it,
because it is still a nice lens, even with the improvements that come with
the ASPH version.   But since you already own the ASPH, stick with it; it
isn't that much bigger than the older lens and it IS superior.

It may be argued that the older lens is TOO small.  I don't have large
hands, but I sometimes have trouble controlling the aperture ring.

(I own both lenses).
