I've got a feeling that you would end-up keeping all 3! ;-)

I had 35/1.4 pre-ASPH and 35/2 (4th version).  Now I have 35/1.4 Asph and 
35/2 (3rd version).  
I don't miss 35/2 (4th version) but I do miss 35/1.4 pre-asph.  I take lots 
of pictures of my children (ages 6&8) and softer rendition of the lens 
produced lots of wonderful photos.  Nevertheless, I would not trade in my 
35/1.4 ASPH for a non-asph version.  

One thing I like to add to other's advice is that 35/1.4 pre-asph's closest 
focusing distance is 1m compare to 0.7m of the asph.  It does make a quite 
bit of difference when you are shooting people at close distance (e.g. in a 
party, across the table in a restaurant etc.).
