As usual a great set of photos. Your pictures of Spain are always a
pleasure to view.

Last week I spent Monday-Wednesday in Seville and had the opportunity to
see one of the city's main events: the Easter processions which take
place every day of the week. Basically, the idea is to take the
sculptures of Jesus or Mary out of a local church and carry them around
the city for several hours, accompanied by hundreds of pilgrims and
music. Every Spanish city has its Semana Santa, but the one in Seville
is the biggest and most famous, with people from all over Spain coming
to town to see it. What was most impressive to me was the seriousness
with which people behaved--this is no ordinary Easter parade, but a very
spiritual event, impressive even to a non-Christian like myself.

I took several rolls of film, mostly colour and will be putting up a
gallery soon, but for my PAW I have chosen 6 B&W images.

First, the main point of the procession passing by Seville's cathedral:

A close-up of the pilgrims. When I first saw them, I was struck by the
similarity to the KKK outfits, although they are not always white. But I
am sure that the origins of these go back a lot further. My local
colleagues could not explain the exact significance, but there is a
strict requirement to cover one's face:

The pilgrims hand out some candy to children, along with small pictures
of Virgin Mary; some children collect the candle wax as a souvenir:

As I often do at these occasions, I turned my camera on the people in
the crowd. A little girl watches awestruck:

A young couple has other things in their minds:

Finally, a churros stand. Churros and other sweets are a traditional
Semana Santa treat:

All pictures with Leica CL, 40mm Rokkor (I think, although I was also
using the 25mm Snapshot Skopar), on Tri-X.

The complete PAW index is at:

and comments/critique are always welcome and appreciated.
