I use one liter glass brown bottles with tight lids and I've likewise
gotten a year out of the last bottles. I got a lot less before I
switched to glass bottles.

The truth is that, using XTOL at 1:1 I have a hard time using up a
five-liter batch in a year. It is nominally 50 rolls at 100ml of stock
per roll. When I factor in some other B&W developers that I use in some
circumstances plus all the color, I find that I'm mixing up only about
one batch a year. At about 8 bucks per five liter pack of XTOL, it has
to be about the cheapest component of the whole system.
