Thank you Tom A for a delightful story! You really captured my imagination. Anyone else had notable run-ins with celebrated photogs? I'd love to hear more stories like Tom's.

Here's mine; the last time I was in Vancouver I took the bus into town from the airport and tried to call my friend on a payphone. He wasn't home, so I lugged my pack around, looking for a good book or record store to hang out in. Turned out there was a Ralph Gibson retrospective happening around the corner, and the vernissage was that night! I strolled into the gallery, looking pretty scruffy, and asked the guy hanging prints if he knew when Ralph would be showing up. He said he wasn't sure and suggested I come back later. Inspired, I left my pack at the gallery and went out in search of the ultimate street shot. I took this one on a bus that same afternoon:

That night I humbly approached Ralph Gibson and mumbled something about being inspired. He autographed a postcard for me and wrote "Stay inspired" - all the while looking over my shoulder at a stunning blonde who had just sauntered into the gallery. Oh yeah - the guy hanging prints was none other than Ralph Gibson himself. Say what you will of his recent contributions to Leica's promo material - he's a great shooter.
